Draycott and Hanbury Cricket Club ground and clubhouse is to be found on Knightsfield Road close to New Farm and Howitt House. Hanbury has had a flourishing Cricket Club since the mid 1800s, but the club has been amalgamated with nearby Draycott in the Clay: it moved to its present location in 1982.

 

Of historical note, during the period 1894 - 1913, the Club ground was at New Lodge and the club room was the Parish Room. However, the owner of New Lodge, a Mr E Arliss would not allow practices to take place. Luckily, a Mr Keeling offered his field opposite Far Fillimore for practices, provided that any damage was made good and that no intoxicating liquor was brought onto the ground. This field, known as 'Long Tom' eventually became the club ground and a pavillion was built.

 

The First X1 plays in Division 6 South of the Derbyshire County Cricket League, having been previously in Division 7.
 
The Junior section is thriving and catering for all age groups, both boys and girls. We have under 11, under 13 and under 15 teams: Juniors come to the club each Tuesday evening for coaching appropriate to their age. We also have a Kwik Cricket (soft ball ) team for the under 10s.  All sessions are properly supervised although parents are encouraged to attend – they can enjoy a relaxing drink from the bar!
 

The Beer Team plays on most midsummer Friday evenings. This is always a sociable occasion and players are a mixture of young and those who are a little older but still enjoy playing. 

 

A Friendlies Team plays non-competitive games on Sundays.
 
The pavilion can be used for private functions such as children’s parties and private functions: we also host charitable events.
